CityFarm provides us with fresh organic vegetables on a daily basis, without harmful chemicals and, above all, without any additional work. All you have to do is plant and wait for them to grow, Midori takes care of the rest using a hydroponic system based on water circulation. You plant the seeds and wait, over the next two days and weeks you will see a perfectly healthy plant appear. Hydroponics, or hydroponic farming, is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions instead of soil.
The NFT (Nutrient Film Technique) hydroponic system is a soil-less growing system that uses only water and is based on the recirculation of a nutrient solution past the bare roots, allowing the plants to absorb water, nutrients and oxygen. Professional green agricultural installations have some significant advantages over traditional gardening.

The Midori urban garden is an ideal complement to any modern indoor or outdoor urban environment, with the utmost attention to ecology, sustainability and design.
Up to production
When CityFarm’s multidisciplinary team of engineers, architects and sustainability experts came to our studio with a basic concept proposal, we were tasked with designing a model adapted to a new and growing urban environment. Stimulo became involved as design consultants to guide the team through all stages of design, engineering and prototyping to production. As we moved through the immersive phase of the project, we began to question the original architecture of the existing basic model, proposing new solutions and alternative directions.
From then on, our research supported the use of inspirational panels with sketches of the design directions we had just developed and iterated with the help of the design and engineering software Rhinoceros and Solidworks. Stimulo transformed a rough proof of concept into a completely new, efficient and cost-effective rotomoulded product ready for market.
Details
Our client did not want to orient the project towards the classical agricultural environment. The main user had to be a city person who changes a traditional approach to garden design. Subsequently, the emotional appearance of the Midori garden became one of the most important design drivers to suit a modern city flat.
For this reason, we considered the hydroponic garden very early in the development process as a piece of design furniture, with extreme attention to detail. The attention to the appearance of the volume and lines of the product leads us to a rather minimalistic approach with straight, rounded edges and a smooth textured plastic material with integrated elegant legs that blends extremely well with the complementary wooden tool structure.
